Official and Complementary Publications Explained

Below is a diagram that represents the Official Portfolio and the wider complementary portfolio:

OGC Best Practice Portfolio

The Official Portfolio includes:

  • The Cabinet Office required products (shown in green). These are the Cabinet Office Core reference material and a range of derived products. All products that are Cabinet Office-required are "Crown copyright - value-added".
  • Complementary material from the Official Publisher, Official Accreditor and web based complementary products.

The nature of the Cabinet Office core products is such that they need to be interpreted and adapted for use. As a result of feedback from the marketplace, Cabinet Office-required products include all Core products and a restricted set of derived products. These derived products include introductions to the framework(s), specific pocketbooks covering key elements of the core framework and study guides in support of the emerging qualifications.

Listings of individuals and organisations that hold active OPSI licenses, whose material is incorporated within the wider complementary portfolio, can be found on OPSI's licensees list.

FAQs regarding the Best Management Practice portfolio in general can be viewed here, whilst the Official Publisher Product Brochure can be downloaded from www.best-management-practice.com.

OGC (former owner of Best Management Practice) and its functions have moved into the Cabinet Office part of HM Government - www.cabinetoffice.gov.uk.

Material produced since the move has revised copyright and trademark statements reflecting Cabinet Office ownership.

Best Management Practice guidance that existed at the time of the move will continue to reference OGC until it is updated. Over time all Best Management Practice guidance will be updated and will then fully reflect Cabinet Office ownership and use the updated statements and references where applicable.
